Description of key information

According to Column 2 of Annex IX of REACH, a study on adsorption / desorption of acetate does not need to be conducted since acetate has a low log Kow (i.e. log Kow ≤ 3). According to an experimental database match (Hansch, C. et al. 1995) of the QSAR model software EpiSuite v.4.1, acetic acid has a log Kow of -0.17. Soil adsorption coefficients estimated with KOCWIN v2.00 range from 1 L/kg (MCI method) to 1.153 L/kg (Kow method) further point to a low potential for adsorption in the environment. Further, acetate and its degradation products decompose rapidly in the environment.
