Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
MTDID15670
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
MTDID15670
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

MTDID 15670 is hydrolytically active. The half-life at pH7 and room temperature is too short to allow quantification. It does not show direct toxicity in mammalian systems. Aquatic toxicity and bioaccumulation potential are addressed by the hydrolysis products: Tetrafluoroboric acid (CAS# 16872-11-0), Crotononitrile (CAS# 4786-20-3), and dodecyl ethyl sulfide. The substance itself is not PBT or vPvB

Tetrafluoroboric acid is inorganic and therefore not subject to PBT analysis.

Crotononitrile was addressed by modeling and experiment. By QSAR modeling, it is readily biodegradable and has a log Kow of 0.62. In aquatic toxicology testing, it was not toxic at nominal concentrations of 100 mg/L. Therefore, Crotononitrile is not PBT or vPvB.

Dodecyl ethyl sulfide was addressed by modeling. Because it is not available commercially, a surrogate, dodecyl methyl sulfide was used for aquatic toxicity testing. By multiple lines of evidence, it is not persistent, but it has a log Kow of 6.8. In acute aquatic toxicology testing, the surrogate was not toxic at nominal concentrations of 100 mg/L. In the absence of any other results, the acute data are insufficient to conclude on Toxicity. Therefore, Dodecyl ethyl sulfide is not PBT or vPvB.

By several lines of evidence, the constituent of this substance AND its hydrolysis products do NOT meet the specific criteria in Annex XIII Section 1, or while not allowing a direct comparison with all the criteria, nevertheless indicate that each substance would not have these properties. Substance is NOT PBT or vPvB.
