PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for 3-(amidinothio)propionic acid (CAS 5398-29-8) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA 2012):

Persistence

3-(amidinothio)propionic acid did not show biodegradation in one study performed according to GLP and OECD guideline 301A [<10% (DOC removal) after 28 days]. Thus, the test substance might meet the screening criterion for persistence and is considered to be P or vP in a worst case approach.

Bioaccumulation

Because of the n-octanol/water distribution coefficient (log Pow < 3) accumulation in organisms is not to be expected. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the substance is not considered to be B or vB.

Toxicity

3-(amidinothio)propionic acid is not considered to be toxic. The available chronic data (algae) indictae long-term toxicity of the substance > 0.01 mg/L. The substance is not classified for specific target organ toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity or reproductive and developmental toxicity in mammals. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the substance is considered to be not T.
