Subjects:
36-year old healthy non-smoking man working for 4 years as spray painter in a metal finishing company using TGIC- containing powder coatings (4% TGIC)
Clinical history:
He developed eczema on hands, face and body, and an occupational allergic eczema caused by TGIC. During weekends and vacation his skin reactions disappeared, but started again as soon as he resumed work.

Patch tests were performed with paint, 10% and 3.2% in petrolatum, as well as 1%, 0.32% and 0.1% TGIC (>97%), which all gave strong positive reactions.

Results and discussion

Results of examinations:
Spirometry showed slight obstruction, blood eosinophiles and serum IgE was elevated, but skin pricks with common environmental allergens were negative. Respiratory challenge test with a powder coating containing 4% TGIC induced a dual reaction in PEF and late fall (23%) in FEV1, indicative of an occupational asthma.
