On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Melting point of test substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be 280.11 deg C.

In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic Brown 16 (2012), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that the Basic Brown 16 melted at 169-175 °C.

Based on the above available value, Melting point of test substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be 280.11 deg C.

Boling point:

On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Boling point of substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be 644.52°C

Density:

In a Santa Cruz Biotechnology (2016), density of Basic brown 16 was found to be ~1.2 g/cm3

Particle size distribution

In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB has letter of access (2016), particle size distribution of test item Basic brown 16 (CAS No. 26381-41-9) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 micron.

Vapour pressure:

On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Vapour pressure of substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be 0.00000000000006319 Pa.It is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment  due to the limitation in the field.

Partition coefficient:

On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Partition coefficient of test substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be log Kow =0.88.

In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic Brown 16 (2012), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that Partition coefficient of Basic Brown 16 by EU Method A.8 was found to be log Kow = -0.74 at 23°C and pH 9.95.

On the basis of above available data, Partition coefficient of [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride were log Kow =0.88.

Water solubility:

On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Water solubility of test substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride was estimated to be 2281 mg/L. This solubility value indicated that test substance is soluble in water.

In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic Brown 16 (2012), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that water solubility of Basic Brown 16 was 3730 mg/L at 20°C.

On the basis of above available value, Basic Brown 16 was water soluble in the range of 2281 to 3730 mg/L at 20°C.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride(Common Name: Basic brown 16) is used as a hair color. For this uses, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

In a Material safety data sheet of Look chem Flash point of Basic brown 16 was found to be 398.1 °C.

Auto flammability

The chemical [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic brown 16) does not catch fire upon exposure to air at normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Auto flammable" and hence this end point was considered for waiver.

Flammability:

The chemical [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride(Common Name: Basic brown 16) has an NFPA rating of 1 for Flammability. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Flammable" under normal conditions of use, storage and transportation and hence this end point was considered for waiver.

Explosiveness:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic brown 16), except the Azo group. Thus, the chemical is likely to be "Non explosive". Hence this end point was considered for waiver

Oxidising property:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance [8-[(p-aminophenyl)azo]-7-hydroxy-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: C.I. 12250) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance not containing oxygen but chloride atom and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemcial is likely to be "Non-oxidising".
