Description of key information

In this weight of evidence approach 3 values from databases/publications/handbooks were taken into account. The publications taken from the REAXYS database reported values in the ranges of 34-35 °C and 33-35°C. The SRC PhysProp database reported a melting point at 34.5 °C. Therefore the melting range was determined to be in the range from 33 to 35 °C.

In accordance with Step 1 of Annex I of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 and in compliance with Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.3: Information gathering Version 1.1 December 2011, a literature search was conducted. In a weight of evidence approach the collected data were evaluated. According to the ECHA guidance IR/CSA R7a (May 2008) the REAXYS database contain reviewed and evaluated documents from Handbook of Organic Chemistry as published by Friedrich Beilstein and therefore is regarded as reliable literature source and was taken into account as supporting data. REAXYS database reported the value for melting point from the publication of Haller, Bauer (1918) was 34 - 35 °C. REAXYS database reported the value for melting point from the publication of Warrick,P.; Saunders,W.H. (1962) was 33 - 35 °C. In addition the SRC PhysProp database reported the melting point to be 34.5 °C.

In conclusion, three independent literature sources were identified and regarded as reliable for this weight of evidence approach. As all data are slightly different it was excluded that all data refer to the same primary source. All available data had a comparable reliability. Thus, it was concluded to use a melting range of 33-35 °C as key value for chemical safety assessment.
