Description of key information

In a recent study, the Water solubility of Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde has been determined to be 1.62 mg/L using the slow-stirring method at 20°C and pH 4-7 (without centrifugation step). This value has been retained to be used as Key value for chemical safety assessment.

Additional information

Two studies were performed in order to determine the water solubility of Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde.

In the first study, the water solubility has been determined to be 0.3 mg/L at 20 ºC and pH 4-5 using the shake flask method with a centrifugation system.

In the second study, the water solubility has been determined to be 1.62 mg/L for pure water using the slow-stirring method at 20°C and pH 4-7 (without centrifugation step) and similar results were found for the solubility of the test substance in daphnid medium.

Further investigations were performed in the second study in order to explain the difference of results with the first study. It was demonstrated that the solubility value in the first study

has been underestimated because of a high hydrophobic adsorption phenomenon on the centrifugation tubes walls.

Therefore, the Water solubility value found in the more recent study should be considered as a more accurate water solubility value and should be used as the Key value for chemical safety assessment.
