No guideline-conform, reliable study on skin sensitisation of o-Chlorobenzylchloride has been identified.
There is one study report available with low reliability (Landsteiner and Jacobs, 1936). The study was conducted in guinea pigs, suggesting that eight out of thirteen animals tested gave a positive response to o-Chlorobenzylchloride. Rao et al.(1981) evaluated various chemical groups for their skin sensitization potential in the guinea pig. Positive responses occurred with benzyl chlorides. In the Guinea Pig Maximization Test according to OECD guideline 406 and GLP the position isomer p‑Chlorobenzylchloride was a sensitizer (Hoechst AG, 1986).
Based on this weight of evidence, o-Chlorobenzylchloride is considered to be a sensitising compound.
