1,2 -dichlorobenzene is not readily biodegradable. However, aerobic biodegradation by adapted microorganisms is possible in the aquatic environment. Biodegradation in surface waters under anaerobic conditions could not be proved unambiguously. Degradation of 1,2 -dichlorobenzene in surface water, sediment or soil is considered to occur unlikely.
