Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The most sensitive NOEC for 2-aminoethanol was derived from an early life stage test in 1996 with 1.2 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium nitrate is soluble in water and dissociates to (2 -hydroxyethyl)ammonium and nitrate.

Since there are no studies available on the aquatic toxicity of the test substance, published literature about the toxic effects of 2 -aminoethanol has been consulted alternatively.

The most sensitive NOEC (1.2 mg/L) was derived after a 30 -day exposure period of 2 -aminoethanol (CAS 141-43-5) to the species Oryazis latipes [NITE, 1996]. The 100 day NOEC for reproduction, percent hatch and percent viability of Salvelinus fontinalis was 1.77 mg/L. The 100 day NOEC for survival, length and weight of this species was > 20 mg/L [Mayer et al., 1986].

Nitrate has not been tested for longterm effects on fish because all data available concerning substances belonging to the nitrate category show a very low toxicity. In addtion, nitrates have a very high water solubility and their chemical properties do not indicate bioaccumulation. Therefore, the study is not considered necessary.
