Description of key information
The partition coefficient of HC Blue No 2 has been determined to be 1.02, log Pow 0.0104 and 5.20, log Pow 0.716 in two studies performed according to EU method A.8. Substances having a log Pow of greater than 3 are regarded as having the potential to bioaccumulate in the environment. HC Blue No 2 is not expected to bioaccumulate in the environment.

The partition coefficient of HC Blue No 2 was determined according to EU method A.8. The test was conducted at a concentration of 50 mg/L (test item) employing an eluent consisting of 60% methanol : 40% water. Samples of the test item were analysed by HPLC on a ODS column at 548nm. The dead time and reference standards were analysed at 240nm. The partition coefficient of HC Blue No 2 was determined to be 1.02, log Pow 0.0104.
In a further study the partition coefficient of HC Blue No 2 was also determined according to EU method A.8. The test was conducted employing an eluent consisting of 30% methanol : 70% buffer solution (pH 7.5). Analysis was performed by HPLC on a Novapak C18 column at 240nm. The partition coefficient of HC Blue No 2 was determined to be 5.20, log Pow 0.716
Substances having a log Pow of greater than 3 are regarded as having the potential to bioaccumulate in the environment. HC Blue No 2 is not expected to bioaccumulate in the environment.
