Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

BAB was assessed for long-term toxicity to mussels as described in a publication from Scarlett et al (2008). In the test conditions it was not possible to determine a LC10 or NOEC, but is was proved that the substance is toxic to this specie.

LAB assessed by ECB (1997) and OECD (2002) dossiers evidenced significant long-term toxicity to daphnia, but the test used a carrier solvent, which is not environmentally relevant (therefore the data were not presented in IUCLID).
In contrast, EPIsuite’s ECOSAR indicates that for neutral organics, if the log Kow is greater than 8.0, no chronic toxicity effects are predicted at saturation (due to the very low water solubility). This is the case for most of the BAB components and notably the main, C12-substituted fraction.

A long-term toxicity study on aquatic invertebrates (OECD 211) is on-going.
