First-aid measures

General advice: Remove all soiled, soaked clothing and footwear immediately.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If necessary, administer oyxgen.

Skin contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water.

Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If eye irritation persists, consult a specialist.

Ingestion: Rinse out mouth and spit out the liquid. If person remains conscious, immediately give a lot of water to drink and induce vomiting. Hold person's head low, to prevent aspiration (inhalation into the windpipe) Call a doctor if necessary.

Notes to physician / Possible symptoms

Lung: Irritation causing coughing

Eyes: Conjunctivitis

Ingestion: Headaches, dizziness, tiredness, stomach and intestinal symptoms

Notes to physician / Advice for treatment

This ester can cause moderately serious poisoning effects. Elimination is therefore the main aim of treatment. Due to its non-corrosive nature, elimination can be achieved through immediate vomiting or irrigation of the stomach if the chemical is ingested. It is helpful to give the person powdered carbon afterwards.

Take preventive measures against aspiration (intubation if necessary).

Irritated areas of skin can be treated with corticosteroids.

Corticosteroids are effective following inhalation too.

Symptomatic treatment.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance, combustive products or resulting gases

In the event of fire it can be released: Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), Sulfur oxides (SOx)

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters

In the case of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Use personal protective equipment.

Additional advice: Use water spray to cool unopened containers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.

During purification or cleaning and maintenance procedures wear protective clothing. See Chapter EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION.

Reduce exposure to a minimum.

Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Environmental precautions

Must not get into the soil, sewerage systems and surface water. In the event of contamination, notify the responsible authorities.

Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers).

Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water.

Methods for cleaning up / taking up

Suppress (knock down) gases/vapours/mists with a water spray jet.

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust).

Clean with detergents. Avoid solvents.

Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Treat recovered material as described in the section "DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS".

Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water.

Additional advice

The danger areas must be delimited and identified using relevant warning and safety signs.

Forms slippery/greasy layers with water.
