One long-term toxicity study with Daphnia magna is available for C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0; BASF 2012). The test was performed according to OECD 211 guideline and GLP principles. Daphnids were exposed for 21 days under semi-static conditions to six test concentrations up to 6.86 mg/L (measured concentration). The followed parameters included mortality and reproduction of daphnids. The NOEC value based on the reproduction was determined to be 1.4 mg/L and the LOEC value as 6.86 mg/L (measured concentrations).

Besides, a 21-day chronic test with the freshwater polyp Hydra attenuata is available for C10AS Na, CAS 142-87-0 (Bode et al. 1978). Polyps were exposed under semi-static conditions to three concentrations of the test substance and a control treatment for 21 days. The cumulative number of buds was determined per concentration over a period of three weeks. The NOEC value for the budding rate was determined as 5.2 mg/L (no information on analytical measurements were provided). The result is however hard to interpret as a non-standard test organism was used and also non-standard method and endpoint was applied.

It seems that both trophic levels - aquatic invertebrates and also fish are similarly sensitive to C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0). The long-term NOEC values for aquatic invertebrates is 1.4 mg/L and for fish 1.357 mg/L. The more conservative value of 1.357 mg/L was used for the PNEC calculation.
