Description of key information

The 48-hour EC50 value of 32 mg/L for diethylene triamine is the geometric mean of two 48-hour LC50 values from valid exposure studies with Daphnia magna.

Nine acute toxicity tests were listed for this endpoint, however five of these studies were not available in their entirety for review, and thus were assigned a Klimisch score of 4 based on the unavailability of the original study reference.  Additionally, two studies were scored as Klimisch 3 due to a failure to neutralize the pH of the test solutions following addition of the test material. Thus, only two studies with Daphnia magna were deemed reliable (Klimisch score = 2). These acute studies were conducted with Daphnia magna, and test solutions were appropriately pH adjusted. The 48-hour EC50 values (based on immobility) were reported as 64.6 mg/L and 16 mg/L. Since these toxicity studies were conducted with the same species (D. magna) and the resulting LC50 values were within an order of magnitude of each other, the geometric mean of the two values was calculated as 32 mg/L and this value was used as the key parameter for this endpoint.
