Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the primary information sourced from the Beilstein database, the Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry (5th Edition), the Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary (12th Edition) and the NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), chlorotrifluoroethylene was reported to melt/freez in the range from -157.5°C to -158.2°C. From this rang -158°C is considered to represent the key value to be used in the chamical safety assessment. The atmospheric pressure was not reported.

Additional information

Information regarding melting/freezing point of chlorotrifluoroethylene was sourced from four separate sources which are known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability: The Beilstein database, the Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry (5th Edition), the Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary (12th Edition) and the NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), which state that the substance melts/freezes in the range from -157.5°C to -158.2°C.

However, based on the information obtained from a reference reported in the Beilstein database (Makitra et al.) the substance melts/freezes at -26.8°C. These data, conflicting with the rest of the reported values, has not been included in this assessment since most likely measured at different atmospheric conditions.
