Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

72-h EC50 (growth rate) of C4 sulfonamido alcohol, 79 mg/L (EPA.850.5400 and OECD 201).
72-h NOEC (growth rate) of C4 sulfonamido alcohol, 21 mg/L (per above)
No biologically relevant effect was observed up to 50 mg/L of C4 glycine acid (stable biodegradation product)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

C4 sulfonamido alcohol underwent primary biodegradation in an inherent biodegradability test, forming C4 glycine acid as a stable product. Accordingly, toxicity to algae was assessed for both C4 sulfonamido alcohol and C4 glycine acid. C4 sulfonamido alcohol toxicity was measured in a test conducted according to OECD 201 and EPA.850.5400. Test substance concentration was determined analytically, and the test complied with GLP criteria. The study is considered reliable without restrictions. C4 glycine acid affected test solution pH, with the highest test concentration (100 mg/L nominal) having pH 4.3. Biologically relevant effects were seen only at the highest test concentration. The EC50 determined in this study cannot be considered valid due to excessive acidification of the test medium, and the study was deemed unreliable. However, controls showed exponential growth, and no biologically significant effects were observed on growth rate or appearance up to 50 mg/L.
