Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACh Annex IX if it is scientifically not possible to perform the test for instance if the analytical method is not sensitive enough.
Complexation products of sodium tartrate with iron (III) chloride is the group of reaction products obtained upon combining sodium tartrate [D(-)-, L(+)- and meso-tartaric acid] with iron (III) chloride under specified conditions. Iron tartrates are well established substances, but the exact chemical nature of these species are difficult to determine and a number of structures have been proposed in the published literature (Green and Parkins, 1961; Bayer, 1964; Ivanov and Kosoy, 1975; Chevela et al., 1995). Many of these postulations are derived from the results of indirect analytical methods (e.g., titration) or from modeling experiments. Although the individual components of the mixture can be identified by conventional analytical techniques, these methods are not capable of distinguishing between the different Fe(III)/ tartrate species that may be present. Moreover, the species present are likely to be greatly dependent upon the conditions, varying with state (solid vs. liquid), pH, and concentration.
