Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation potential of the test substance in water was investigated in three screening BOD5 and COD tests (1980, 1978 and 1977). BOD5/COD ratio was ca. 0.01 in all tests.

According to the CLP Regulation EC n. 1272/2008, Annex I, Part 4, subsection 4.1.2.9.2 which states,

"One way of demonstrating rapid degradation utilises the biodegradation screening tests designed to determine whether an organic substance is ‘readily biodegradable’. Where such data are not available, a BOD(5 days)/COD ratio ≥ 0,5 is considered as indicative of rapid degradation."

The BOD5/COD = ca. 0.01, which is less than 0.5 as given in the above regulation. Therefore, the test substance shows no evidence of rapid biodegradation in water.

Biodegradation of the test substance in water and sediment, and in soil were not investigated. Also, the mode of degradation in actual use was not examined.
