There are no data available on the sensitisation of sodium carbonate. In accordance with section 1 of Annex XI of the REACH Regulation, testing does not appear scientifically necessary. Sodium carbonate is considered not to have any sensitising properties, based on the physiological role of both its constituent ions, as well as the fact that sensitising effects of both ions have never been reported, despite long-term historical and wide dispersive use (e. g. for the production of glass, soaps and detergents and other chemicals, use by the ‘metals and mining’ industry and the ‘pulp and paper’ industry, also use in consumer products like cosmetics, soaps, scouring powders, soaking and washing powders and as a food additive).
