It consists primarily of aromatic and other hydrocarbons, phenolic compounds and aromatic nitrogen compounds and distills in the approximate range of 200°C to 250°C (392°F to 482°F).

Description of key information
The water solubility of Naphthalene oil composite sample No. 05 as water accommodated fraction (WAF) was 15 - 16 mg TOC/L (at a loading level of 50 mg oil/L) at 20°C under closed conditions, i.e about 30 % of the loading. The WAF at a loading of 100 mg oil/L is estimated to be 25 mg TOC/L.

Naphthalene oil is a solid organic UVCB substance of limited water solubility. For an estimation of the overall water solubility, the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) was chosen as sum parameter. The highest WAF was obtained - as expected - when a sealed test system was employed. No measurement is available for a loading of 100 mg/L under these conditions. The WAF/loading ratio is estimated to be about 0.25. which corresponds to approximately 25 mg TOC/L at a loading of 100 mg/L.
Under open conditions, due to evaporation of volatile constituents, the WAF is lower with about 6 - 7 mg TOC/L at a loading of 100 mg/L and about 20 - 21 mg/L at a loading of 500 mg/L.
