The substance 2-ethylhexyl salicylate is readily biodegradable. Thus, no further degradation tests (biotic or abiotic) are necessary. The substance is considered rapidly degradable in the environment. No persistence of the substance in the environment is expected.

The substance has a low volatility under environmental conditions (estimated Henry’s law constant: 0.319 Pa· m3/mol). No information about the adsorption/desorption to soil is available, but as the substance has a high logKow (>6) it is expected that the substance is immobile in soil.

Despite the high log Kow, bioaccumulation in aquatic species is not expected as the BCF estimated with the method of Arnot and Gobas is only 123.7 L/kg ww considering that the substance has a half-life in fish of less than a day.
