Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dissociation constant: 8.13±0.30 (calculation).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

pKa at 20°C:
8.13

Additional information

According to Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance), this endpoint can be waived as there is a lack of relevant functional groups associated with dissociation constant. Attempts to determine the dissociation constant of 2 -ethylhexyl salicylate by the titration method and the spectrophotometric method failed indicating a high pKa indicative of extremely low tendency for dissociation. This could be confirmed by using computational methods (QSAR) predicting a pKa value of 8.13 ±0.30. Hence, there is no need to investigate further.
