Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The endpoint is waived: The substance is water reactive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the Annex VII Standard Information Requirements for REACH, determination of water solubility is required. Column 2 - specific rules for adaption from column 1 - states that water solubility does not need to be determined in case the substance is hydrolytically unstable or readily oxidizable in water. Zinc alkyls are highly reactive both towards oxygen (air) and water as explained below. They are exclusively marketed in liquid state and shipped under UN transport class 4.2 (substances liable to spontaneous combustion / pyrophoric liquids) or at least under class 4.3 (substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases).
