Executive summary:

In a study (Processium, 2010), the boiling point of 4-tert-butylpyrocatechol was assessed using the differential scanning calorimetry, according to the regulation (EC) n°440/2008, A.2, and to the OECD Guideline n°103.

 

A test item amount of 5 mg was heated up from 30 to 300°C with a rate of 10°C/min. During the experiment, two samples were measured. The quantities of heat absorbed or released were measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry and recorded. A reference sample (around 5 mg) of benzoic acid was measured in order to evaluate the experimental procedure.

The results of the boiling point of 4 -TBC were: 289.8°C and 291.2°C and of the reference item: 249.7°C.

According to the results of the reference item, the test has to be considered as valid.

In conclusion, the boiling point of 4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol is 290.5°C +/- 1.0°C.

This study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for a boiling point study.
