Executive summary:

In a study to determine explosion properties of 4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol (CRTL, 2009), the shock test, the friction test, the thermal sensitivity test were performed according to the regulation (EC) n°440 /2008, A.14.

The 3 tests were negative.

According to the EC A.14 criteria, 4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol has no shock sensitivity, no friction sensitivity and no thermal sensitivity.

To conclude 4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol has not explosive properties.

This study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for a explosiveness study.

Description of key information

4-tert-butylpyrocatechol does not present a danger of explosion.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

One experimental study (CRTL, 2009) with reliability 1 according to Klimisch was available and was selected as key study. Explosion properties were determined according to the regulation (EC) n°440/2008, A.14.

The 3 tests: shock, friction and thermal sensivity, were negative.

4 -tert-butylpyrocatechol has not explosive properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

4-tert-butylpyrocatechol has not explosive properties when tested according to A.14 method, so it is not classified according to EU classification criteria.
