In accordance with REACH Chapter R.7C Endpoint Specific Guidance, specifically R.7.11.6.3 Testing Stategy (Table R.7.11-2), data to characterize toxicity to soil microorganisms is waived for the following reasons. Di-isodecyl phthalate ester (DIDP) is readily biodegradable, consequently it is considered to degrade rapidly in the environment and not persist. DIDP does not cause acute or chronic aquatic toxicity at its maximum water solubility, consequently it does not pose an acute or chronic aquatic hazard, and it is not possible to derive NOEC or PNEC values needed for quantitative risk assessment. However, it is possible to qualitatively conclude based on low solubility and available effects test data that DIDP is not harmful to aquatic organisms. Acute and chronic toxicicty data for soil macroorganisms, earthworms, also show that DIDP does not cause effects at high soil loading rates. Data also show that DIDP does not inhibit respiration in wastewater treatment microorganisms at levels above its water solubility. Therefore, based on these considerations, additional short and long-term toxicity testing for soil microorganisms is not needed.
