Brief description of the test
If the product sustains combustion ( C.I. ≥4), an additional test on ready combustibility (burning rate) regarding transport regulations (UN Test No 1) as well as European Chemical Directive 92/69/EEC is performed. A standardized pile is ignited at one end and the burning rate over a defineddistance is measured.

In preliminary test at first, the burning rate over a distance of 20cm is measured. If the pile does not ignite after 2 minutes of contact with the heat source or if the pile burns over a distance of 20 cm in more than 2 minutes, the product need not be classified as a " readily combustible solid" [Class 4.1] of the transport regulation

Similarly the product need not be labeled as " highly flammable solid" [ Risk Phrase: R11] if the pile does not ignite after 2 minutes of contact with heat source or if the pile burns over a distance of 20 cm in more than 4 minutes. In all other cases the main test is to be performed wherein the burning rate is measured over a distance of 10 cm after a preliminary burning of 8 cm. The test has to be repeated five times. The time limit to exclude a classification as " readily combustible solid" [Class 4.1] according to transport regulation. and as " highly flammable" [Risk Phrase R11] according to chemical law is 45 seconds for a distance of 10 cm.

Key result
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks:
Ignition on contact with air refers to given chemical is Pyrophoric solids.
Remarks on result:
other: As Combustibility Index both at ambient and at 100°C is 1; Burning rate test not required to be done
Interpretation of results:
Category 1 (pyrophoric solids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Thus it is observed from the experimental study, the Combustibility Index for the chemical N-(4-{bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]methylene} cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene)-N-methylmethanaminium chloride at ambient temperature = 1 and at 100°C = 1.
Hence  it can be concluded that the chemical N-(4-{bis[4- (dimethyl amino) phenyl]methylene}cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene) -N-methylmethanaminium chloride was considered as non-flammable (does not ignite) for chemical safety assessment.
