Reference
Endpoint:
solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
16 Jun - 1 Jul 2016
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: OECD 105
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
preliminary test only, due to gel formation
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Although the guideline OECD 105 refers to solubility in water, the protocol can be applied also for other type solvents, including organic ones, and in particular n-octanol.
GLP compliance:
no
Medium:
n-octanol
Solubility:
> 2 100 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
Test substance stable:
yes

Preliminary test:

To 1.64 g of n-octanol, the following aliquots of test item were added:

Experiment

Weighed sample [g]

Result

A

0.0194

clear liquid

B

0.1192

clear liquid, yellowish

C

0.2685

clear liquid, yellowish

D

0.0073

clear liquid

E

0.0659

clear liquid

F

0.0950

clear liquid, yellowish

G

3.0880

clear liquid, yellowish

H

4.2193

clear liquid, yellowish

With 4.2193 g of test item being mixed into 1.64 g of n-octanol, a clear yellowish liquid with a total weight of 5.8593 g has been formed. This is equivalent to 72.0% (w/w) of test item in solution or a concentration of 2.11 kg/L.

The n-octanol solubility can be approximated to > 2100 g/L, or rather unlimited.

Description of key information

Solubility in n-octanol: > 2100 g/L, or rather unlimited, at 20 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Because of the lack of a proper guideline for solubility in organic solvents, the solubility of the substance in n-octanol was determined in accordance with OECD 105, i.e the guideline for water solubility.
