Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

• After inhalation: If metal vapours or solid dusts have been inhaled:

Get the affected person out in the fresh air and call a doctor.

• After skin contact: Foreign bodies which have penetrated the skin must be removed

and the wound cleaned thoroughly.

Remove contaminated clothing.

If skin irritation continues, consult a doctor.

• After eye contact: Foreign bodies must be removed, consult a doctor if necessary.

Fire-fighting measures

• Suitable extinguishing agents: Dry sand, metal fire powder or carbon powder

• For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents: Water

Carbon dioxide

• Special hazards caused by the substance, its products of combustion or resulting gases: Can form explosive gas-air mixtures.

• Protective equipment: Wear self-contained respiratory protective device.

Accidental release measures

• Person-related safety

precautions: Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol.

• Measures for environmental protection: Do not allow product to reach sewage system or any watercourse.

• Measures for cleaning/collecting: Do not flush with water or aqueous cleansing agents

When cold, sweep it up carefully.

Avoid dust development.

Handling and storage

• Handling:

• Information for safe handling: Keep receptacles tightly sealed.

Prevent formation of dust.

Fill only in inert gas.

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

Take note of emission threshold.

• Information about fire - and

explosion protection: Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke.

Protect against electrostatic charges.

Inflammable and explosive dust-air mixtures can develop in

combination with air.

• Storage:

• Requirements to be met by

storerooms and receptacles: Containers must be clearly and indelibly identified.

• Information about storage in

one common storage facility: Store away from foodstuffs.

• Further information about

storage conditions: Store in cool, dry conditions in well sealed receptacles.

• Storage class: Comply with on-site storage guidelines for substances able to

heat up spontaneously (pyrophoric).

• Class according to regulation

on flammable liquids: Not applicable

Exposure controls / personal protection

• Additional information about

design of technical facilities: Provide a suitable suction with filter and good ventilation of the working area

for all processing steps.

Suitable breathing apparatus must be used (see personal safety equipment) for repair and maintenance

work on suction systems,

especially when changing the filters.

• Ingredients with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace:

7440-48-4 cobalt:

DNEL (Inhalation, worker): 40 μg/m³ (REACH-Registration-Dossier)

CAS# 7440-42-8 boron:

DNEL (Inhalation, worker): 97.95 mg/m³ (REACH-Registration-Dossier)

• Additional Occupational

Exposure Limit Values for

possible hazards during

processing: Compliance with the general dust limit value(s) (lung penetrating

and/or inhalable fraction) must be ensured.

• Additional information: The lists valid during the making were used as basis.

• Recommended analysis

procedures: cobalt:

- NIOSH, no. 7027

- OSHA, no. ID 121 / ID-125

• Personal protective equipment:

• General protective and

hygienic measures: Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and feed.

Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work.

• Respiratory protection: In the case of dust formation (limit value exceeded),

breathing apparatus must be worn.

Time limits for wearing must be observed.

Breathing mask, apparatus with particle filter P2 or P3,

for example:

- Full face mask (EN 136)

- Breathing mask (EN 149) FFP2 or FFP3

10 times the limit value (FFP2)

30 times the limit value (FFP3)

Recommendation: P3

• Protection of hands: Avoid repeated and prolonged contact with the skin, use

protective gloves.

Preventive skin protection by use of skin-protecting

agents is recommended.

• Material of gloves: Material of gloves should be impenetrable (e.g. nitrile caoutchouc). Depending on

use heat protective gloves are required.

• Penetration time of glove material -

• Eye protection:

Tightly sealed goggles (EN 166)

• Limitation and supervision of

exposure into the environment The legal issue values and limitations are to be paid attention!

Stability and reactivity

• Thermal decomposition /

conditions to be avoided: It does not degrade if properly used with a protective gas (argon).

Attention:

At high temperatures the substance has an exothermic reaction

in combination with nitrogen.

• Materials to be avoided: Aqueous media (e.g. acid, alkaline solutions, water), substances

with an oxidizing effect

• Dangerous reactions Hydrogen is released when it comes into contact with water, and

explosive gaseous mixtures can develop.

In combination with air or atmospheres with an oxidizing effect

fine powders can develop spontaneous heating or become

pyrophoric.

• Dangerous decomposition

products: No dangerous decomposition products known.

Disposal considerations

• Recommendation Observe offical regulations.

• Uncleaned packaging:

• Recommendation: Empty contaminated packagings thoroughly. They may be

recycled after thorough and proper cleaning.

Packagings that may not be cleansed are to be disposed of in

the same manner as the product.
