First-aid measures

General information
First aider: Pay attention to self-protection!
When in doubt or if symptoms are observed, get medical advice.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps.
Immediately remove any contaminated clothing, shoes or stockings.
If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice.

After inhalation
Seek medical advice immediately.
Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest.
If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration.

After contact with skin
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap.
Do not wash with: Solvents/Thinner
Immediately remove any contaminated clothing, shoes or stockings.
Call a doctor if you feel unwell.

After contact with eyes
Seek medical advice immediately. In case of contact with eyes flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

After ingestion
Seek medical advice immediately.
Rinse mouth.
Put victim at rest, cover with a blanket and keep warm.
Do NOT induce vomiting.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media
Extinguishing powder, Dry sand, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable extinguishing media
Water, foam

Special hazards arising from the substance
Highly flammable liquid and vapour. Heating or fire can release toxic vapours/gas.
Vapours are heavier than air, spread along floors and form explosive mixtures with air. Beware of re-ignition.
In case of fire may be liberated: Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Azides, Silanes, Hydrazoic acid, Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Advice for firefighters
Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. Heating causes rise in pressure with risk of bursting. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. Do not allow entering drains or surface water.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
In case of leakage, eliminate all ignition sources. In case of leakage substance forms immediately the highly toxic hydrazoic acid in contact with moistire (air moisture). Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. Wear personal protection equipment. Provide adequate ventilation. Keep away from unprotected persons.

Environmental precautions
Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. If necessary, inform the competent authorities.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Use only non-sparking tools. Cover with sufficient bonding agent/absorbent materials immediately. Take up mechanically, placing in appropriate containers for disposal. Dispose of waste according to applicable legislation. Clean area thoroughly afterwards (e.g. with diluted NaOH solution).

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling
The substance/product is registered with strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 18(4) of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation)and must therefore be handled as such.
The substance must be handled in closed apparatus or systems only. Provide good ventilation in storage and work areas. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. Wear personal protection equipment. Keep away from unprotected persons. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion
Usual measures for fire prevention. Use only non-sparking tools. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Ground and bond container and receiving equipment. Vapours are heavier than air, spread along floors and form explosive mixtures with air. Beware of re-ignition.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Keep/Store only in original container. Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Protect from sunlight. Protect from humidity. Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only. Always close containers tightly after the removal of product.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Refernece: 0.1 ppm (Hydrazoic acid)

The substance/product is registered with strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 18(4) of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation)and must therefore be handled as such. Transfer and handle product only in closed systems. Provide adequate ventilation. If technical exhaust or ventilation measures are not possible or insufficient, respiratory protection must be worn.

Protective and hygiene measures
Remove all sources of ignition. Avoid contact with the substance. Immediately remove any contaminated clothing, shoes or stockings. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Provide eye and emergency safety showers. Wash hands before breaks and after work. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Eye/face protection
Wear eye/face protection accroding to EN 166

Hand protection
Wear suitable gloves according to EN 374.
Suitable material: Nitrile rubber
The quality of the protective gloves resistant to chemicals must be chosen as a function of the specific working place concentration and quantity of hazardous substances. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves.

Skin protection
Wear suitable protective clothing. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work.

Respiratory protection
Use suitable breathing apparatus with ABEK-P3 filter device according to EN 14387 for short term work.
Recommandation: Self-contained breathing apparatus

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability
The substance is chemically stable under recommended conditions of storage, use and temperature. If in contact with humidity the highly toxic hydrazoic acid is formed.

Incompatible materials
Heavy metals, Water, strong acids, strong alkalis, alcohols, oxidising agents

Disposal considerations

Advice on disposal
Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Dispose according to legislation.
The allocation of waste identity numbers/waste descriptions must be carried out according to the EEC, specific to the industry and process.

Contaminated packaging
Handle contaminated packages in the same way as the substance itself. Completely emptied packages can be recycled. Dispose according to legislation.
