Additional information

TBPA was negative in the Ames test when tested with and without metabolic activate. A related substance, tetrachlorophthalic anyhidride (TCPA), was negative with or without metabolic activation in the Ames test, the in vitro chromosome aberration test in Chinese hamster ovary chells, and the in vi tro sister chromatid exchange test in Chinese hamster ovary cells. TCPA was negative in the in vivo Drosophilla and mouse bone marrow sister chromatid exchange (1st metaphase) assays and gave ambigous results in the in vivo mouse sister chromatic exchange (2nd metaphase).

Short description of key information:
TBPA: Ames test.
TCPA (tetrachlorophthalic anyhidride): Ames test, in vitro chromosome aberration test in Chinese hamster ovary chells, in vitro sister chromatid exchange test in Chinese hamster ovary cells, in vivo Drosophilla , in vivo mouse bone marrow sister chromatid exchange (1st metaphase) assays, in vivo mouse sister chromatic exchange (2nd metaphase).

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the data for TBPA and TCPA, TBPA is not classified.
