Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is pyrophoric
Conclusions:
Determination of flash point is technically not feasible for zinc alkyls and
won't deliver additional safety / risk information.

Description of key information

The endpoint is waived: Determination of flash point is technically not feasible for zinc alkyls as they are pyrophoric.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the Annex VII Standard Information Requirements for REACH, flash point determination is required. In column 2 - specific rules for adaption from column 1 - no conditions are listed applicable to zinc alkyls that justify exemption from flash point determination. Zinc alkyls are highly reactive both towards oxygen (air) and water as explained below. They are exclusively marketed in liquid state and shipped under UN transport class 4.2 (substances liable to spontaneous combustion / pyrophoric liquids) or at least under class 4.3 (substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases). Determination of flash point is technically not feasible for zinc alkyls and won’t deliver additional safety / risk information.
