First-aid measures

General: Consult a physician. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Move out of dangerous area.

- After eye contact: Wash with plenty of water immediately and continue for several minutes, holding eyelid open. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists or if visual changes occur.

- After skin contact: Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. In the event of any complaints or symptoms, avoid further exposure. Consult a physician.

- After ingestion: Ingestion is not a likely route of exposure. Rinse mouth and give water to drink. If vomiting occurs, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration into lungs. If symptoms develop, seek medical advice.

- After inhalation: Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of vapours. Treat symptomatically. Obtain prompt medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

May cause serious eye irritation. May cause skin irritation. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. May be harmful if inhaled. Causes respiratory tract irritation. Frequent or prolonged contact with the product may defat and dry the skin, leading to discomfort and dermatitis. Ingestion not expected under normal conditions of use. Health injuries are not known or expected under normal use.

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment: No information available

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

- Suitable extinguishing media: Use dry chemical, foam or carbon dioxide for extinction.

- Unsuitable extinguishing media: Do not use direct water stream.

Specific hazards arising from the substance or mixture: NFPA code H1, F3, R0.

- Fire hazard: Highly flammable liquid. There is a risk of ignition by an electrostatic spark.

- Explosion hazard: Risk of explosion if heated in a confined system. Container may explode if heated. Readily forms explosive mixtures with air. Vapour/air mixtures are explosive above flash point. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back.

- Reactivity: No information available

Special protective actions for firefighters

- Firefighting instructions: Keep unnecessary people away and isolate hazard area.

- Prevent buildup of vapours or gases to explosive concentrations. Isolate from heat, electrical equipment, sparks, open flame, and other sources of ignition.

- Protective equipment for firefighters: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Thoroughly decontaminate all protective equipment after use. Use water spray to keep fire exposed containers cool. Use water spray to disperse vapours if a spill or leak has not ignitied.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

- General information: Eliminate all ignition sources. No smoking. Keep non-essential personnel at a safe distance away from the spill area. Warn or evacuate occupants in surrounding and downwind areas if required, due to flammability of the material. Ventilate spill area if possible. Do not breathe vapour. Stop leak at source if it can be done safety. Wear protective equipment. Have emergency equipment (for fires, spills, leaks, etc.) readily available.

- For non-emergency personnel: Evacuate unnecessary personnel.

- For emergency responders: Equip cleanup crew with proper protection. Ventilate and isolate area.

Environmental precautions: Prevent entry to sewers and public waters. Notify authorities if liquid enters sewers or public waters. Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Ventilate closed spaces before entering. If possible, turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of liquid. Absorb spill with vermiculite or other inert material, then place in a container for chemical waste. Use non-sparking (non-metallic) tools to clean up spill. Eliminate all ignition sources (flames, electrical sparks, and sparking tools).

For large spills: Use water spray to disperse vapours and dilute spill to a non-flammable mixture. Clean up residual material by washing area with water. Collect washings for disposal. Dispose of wastes and water in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Avoid ignition sources (e.g. flames, electrical sparks). NO SMOKING. Keep away from combustible materials. Do not use, store, spill or pour near heat, sparks or open flame. Do not get in eyes, on skin, on clothing. Use only in a well ventilated area. Wash hands thoroughly after handling and before eating or drinking. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Ensure all containers are labelled. Have emergency equipment (for fires, spills, leaks, etc.) readily available.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Keep container tightly closed until ready for use. Store in a cool, dry well-ventilated space away from ignition sources. Avoid direct sunlight.

Do not store in unlabelled containers. Water contamination should be avoided. Store and handle in accordance with all current regulations and standards.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls

- Appropriate engineering controls: Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday. Avoid high temperatures. Ventilation equipment should be explosion proof if explosive concentrations of material are present.

Personal protective equipment (PPE): Avoid all unnecessary exposure.

- Respiratory PPE: If needed, approved respirator with organic vapour cartridges may be used. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazard of the product and safe working limits of the selected respirator.

- Hand PPE: Handle with chemically resistant gloves. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Use proper glove removal technique (without touching glove's outer surface) to avoid skin contact with this product. Dispose of contaminated or degraded gloves after use in accordance with applicable laws and good laboratory practices. Wash and dry hands. Consult PPE manufacturers.

- Eye PPE: Chemical glasses, goggles and/or face shields are required to prevent potential eye contact, irritation or injury.

- Skin and body PPE: Wear appropriate chemical protective clothing to comply with good occupational hygiene practice. Always wash thoroughly after handling chemicals. Always observe good personal hygiene measures, such as washing after handling the material and before eating, drinking or smoking. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Work clothing worn by personnel shall be laundered regularly.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: No information available.

Chemical stability: Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: No information available.

Conditions to avoid: Heat, flames and sparks and other ignition sources. Extremes of temperature and direct sunlight.

Incompatible materials: strong oxidising agents, acids, bases.

Hazardous decomposition products: Combustion may lead to carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and unknown organics.

Disposal considerations

Waste disposal methods: Dispose of wastes in an approved incinerator or waste treatment/disposal site, in accordance with all applicable regulations. Consult local, state, and federal regulations for specific requirements. Care should be taken when handling emptied containers that have not been cleaned or rinsed out. Empty containers retain product residue and can be hazardous. Empty containers should be taken for recycling, recovery, or disposal through suitably qualified or licensed contractor and in accordance with governmental regulations. Completely empty the packaging prior to disposal.

Disposal of contaminated containers or packaging: Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
