Additional information

A publication evaluating the biodegradation of 1,2,3-propanetriyl trioleate (CAS No. 122-32-7) in soil is available (Haigh-Baird, 1997). Radiolabelled (14C) test substance was incubated in two different test systems: Test System I being a soil mixed with sewage sludge (100 mg test material/kg dw soil) and Test System II only soil (750 mg test material/kg dw soil). The incubation periods were 151 and 146 days respectively. The material mass balance showed recoveries of 84.6 and 90.6% for Test System I and II, respectively. Extensive biodegradation was observed at test termination were 63.5% (after 151 days, Test System I) and 84% (after 146 days, Test System II) values were obtained.

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XIII, 1.1.1, the criterion to consider a substance persistent in soil based on data from a simulation test is to obtain a half-life (time at which 50% biodegradation occurs) above 120 days. The results from the test by Haigh-Baird show that 50% biodegradation took place on days 75 and 16 in Test Systems I and II respectively.

Based on this information and considering that the substance is readily biodegradable, persistence of 1,2,3-propanetriyl trioleate in soil can be excluded.
