In a MITI test (OECD 301 C) ethylamine CAS (75-04-7) was degraded to 90% (based on oxygen consumption, BOD/ThOD). A mixture of sewage, soil and natural water was used as inoculum. Monoethylamine (CAS 75-04-7) is a flammable gas at room temperature. Therefore, in order to handle safer and easier hydrochloride was used. The amount and concentration of the test substance in the study is indicated by the content of monoethylamine contained in the hydrochloride. However, the calculation of TOD and DOC was performed with the amount of hydrochloride added.

This result is supported by a respirometric test (Chudoba,1969). According to this study the substance was degraded to 98.5% in 13 days. Activated sludge was used as inoculum in this study.

 

In conclusion, based on the available experimental data the substance is considered to be readily biodegradable, according to OECD criteria.
