Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Executive summary:
As no experimental data is available for the eye irritation potential of Zinc, Bis (1,3-Diphenyl-1,3-propanedionate), the eye irritation data reported in literature of read-across substances have been evaluated.
The results of the eye irritation test predictions (performed with Toxtree) and in vivo eye irritation studies (ECHA disseminated data) available for read-across substance have been compared and highlighted no potential irritation hazard for eyes.
Furthermore, a literature review of available data to define the eye irritation potential of other read-across substances was conducted in order to evaluate the eye irritation potential of zinc ion in Zinc, Bis (1,3-Diphenyl-1,3-propanedionate).
Contrasting results are reported in literature and ECHA disseminated data among the eye hazard effect of read-across substances. Therefore, an evaluation has been made by comparison of read-across substances CLP classification for eye hazard and their solubility in water. It’s quite clear from data reported that the correlation between water solubility and potential eye damage is particularly evident: low water solubility read-across substances have no hazard classification for eye damages in comparison to high water soluble substances that in evaluations based on vivo studies (ECHA disseminated data) have demonstrated to cause serious eye damages.
As Zinc, Bis (1,3-Diphenyl-1,3-propanedionate) solubility in water is about 1 mg/L, it can be assumed an eye irritation potential comparable to non-water soluble read-across substances substances. For this reason it can be assumed that the substance is not an eye irritant.
