e-News - 5 February 2014

ECHA e-News is a weekly update from the European Chemicals Agency

Two new CLH consultations launched

ECHA has started a 45-day public commenting period on the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposal for thiacloprid and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. Both substances do not have a harmonised classification. Thiacloprid is used as an insecticide in plant protection and biocidal products and the CLH report, submitted by the UK, proposes classification for acute toxicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity and the environmental hazards. Tert-butyl hydroperoxide is primarily used in the chemical industry as a starting material (or intermediate) and as a reactive ingredient (catalyst, initiator or curing agent). The dossier submitter, the Netherlands, is proposing classification for germ cell mutagenicity. The deadline for submitting comments on the two substances is 21 March 2014. The website pages and the commenting webform have been updated to provide more information and instructions on hazard class related comments.

BPC Regulation – Commission seeks information on in situ biocides by 31 March 2014

The European Commission has just launched a call for information on in situ generated biocidal substances and on those chemicals, called precursors, that are used to generated them. The information collected will serve to decide on how to manage in situ generated biocidal active substances in the context of the Biocidal Products Regulation. Companies can submit the relevant information by email to DG ENV using the dedicated form.
