According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, paragraph 1.5., substances whose physicochemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties are likely to be similar or follow a regular pattern as a result of structural similarity may be considered as a group, or "category" of substances. Environmental effects or environmental fate may be predicted from data for reference substance(s) within the group by interpolation to other substances in the group (read-across approach). Ecotocicological data derived from substance with the EC number 255-392-8 are in the same order of magnitude for fish, algae and micro-organisms. Thus, the EC50 from an acute toxicity study and the NOEC from a chronic toxicity study with Daphnia magna with EC 255 -392 -8 are reported here and are considered adequate to cover the respective endpoints. For the detailed read across justification please refer to the annex.

In a 96-h acute toxicity study of the test item to zebra-fish (Brachydanio rerio) under static conditions no toxic effects could be recorded in the range of water solubility.

In a 48-h acute toxicity study with a structural analogue to Daphnia magna no toxic effects could be recorded in the range of water solubility.

In a 21 d chronic toxicity study with a structural analogue to Daphnia magna no toxic effects could be recorded in the range of water solubility.

In a 72 hour acute toxicity study of the test item to cultures of Scenedesmus subspicatus no toxic effects could be recorded in the range of water solubility.

In a respiration inhibition test to microorganisms no toxic effects could be recorded in the range of water solubility.

  • With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
  • Based on long-term (chronic) toxicity study data, the product is very likely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
  • The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
