Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

in an OECD 201 study Norbornene showed an EC50 f 24.7 mg/l and an NOEC of 4.1 mg/l

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
24.7 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
4 mg/L

Additional information

In a non-standard experiment no effects on algae could be determined after 10 days exposure to Norbornene ranging from 1.6 µg/l up to 40 mg/l. The highest concentration of the test was determined by the water solubility of the test substance. (VEB Leuna, 1979)

In a closed system static experiment according to OECD 201 resp. EU C.3 desmodesmus subspicatus was subjected to 2 -norbornene in nominal concentrations ranging from 2,2 to 100 mg/l. Effective concentrations were calculated as the geometric means of concentrations determined before and after the individual test and used for the calculations of the observed results. Each test concentration was determined in three individual experiments. Based on growth rate inhibition, the following results were obtained: NOEC: 4.1 mg/l; LOEC 9.1, mg/l, EC50: 24.7 mg/l. The EC50 based on biomass gain was determined as 9.9 mg/l.
