Additional information

If released on land or in water, methylal is expected to volatilize rapidely due to its vapour pressure (40 kPa) and Henry's law constant (9.51 Pa m³/mol). Adsorption to soil, sediment and particulate matter in water column should be weak due to Koc of 5.545.

The atmosphere is the sink for methylal where it is expected to be degraded by reaction with OH radicals (with half-life of 2.3 days).

Methylal is highly soluble in water and it would be washed out by rain to go back to the ground and water from which it volatilizes to be recycled back to the atmosphere.
