- Conclusions:
- The density of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether is 1.48g/cm3. The relative density if 1.48.
- Executive summary:
An experiment was carried out to determine the density and relative density of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether. The test was perfomed using a pycnometer (of nominal volume 10ml) and all handlings were carried out at 20 ± 0.5°C. Two tests were performed and then mean density for 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether was determined as 1.48g/cm3. The relative density was reported as 1.48.
Reference
The density of a substance is the quotient of the mass and the volume of the substance at a specific temperature. The mass of the test substance used for the experiment was calculated from the difference in weight between the empty pycnometer and the pycnometer filled with test substance. The volume of test substance used for the experiment was the same as the volume of the pycnometer.
The density of the test substance was thus calculated as the quotient of its mass and volume, from the following formula:
D = (B - A) / E
(C - Amean) / Dmean = Density of the test substance (g/cm3)
Where:
A = weight of empty pycnometer (g)
B = weight of pycnometer filled with Milli-Q water (g)
C = weight of the pycnometer filled with test substance (g)
D = volume of pycnometer (g/cm3)
E = density of water at the test temperature (20°C); 0.9882 g/cm3
The relative density of the test substance was also reported as 1.48.
Table 1, below, summaries the densities reported for 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether from the two tests performed:
