Reference
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study

2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions

The pH value of the aqueous phase was not reported. However, as the deviations between the log Pow values were < 0,3 log units, log Pow values were assumed to be valid.

Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Analytical method:
gas chromatography
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
-0.07
Temp.:
25 °C

Validity criteria for the measurement of the partition coefficient:

Target condition according to guideline:Actual condition according to the study:Validity criteria met:
For the measurement, substance-specific methods are preferred. Analytical methods which may be appropriate: photometry, gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The analytical method GC-FID was used within the study.Yes
The temperature, the amount of test substance introduced in the test vessels, the volume of each phase in each vessel and the calculated total amount of test substance based on the analytical data shall be stated.

The temperature, test substance concentration, volume of phases and recovery of the test substance were stated in the study.

Yes
The pH of the water used and of the aqueous phase during the experiment shall be stated. The pH value of the aqueous phase was not reported. However, as the deviations between the log Pow values were < 0,3 log units, the pH was assumed to be stable. No
In order to assure the accuracy of the partition coefficient, duplicate determinations are to be made under three different test conditions, whereby the quantity of substance specified as well as the ratio of the solvent volumes may be varied. The determined values of the partition coefficient expressed as their common logarithms should fall within a range of ± 0,3 log units.Experiments were done with three different concentrations of the test substance in duplicate determinations and determined log Pow values were within the range of ± 0,3 log units.Yes

Conclusions:
The partition coefficient of test substance was determined to be: log Pow = -0.07 at 25°C.
Executive summary:

The study was performed to determine the partition coefficient of the test substance by the flask shaking method in accordance with EC Testing Guideline A.8. Measurements were performed with three different concentrated aqueous stock solutions and n-oetanol saturated with water. The GC analysis of the test substance in each phase after equilibration at 25°C gives a partition coefficient with 95 % confidence intervall of log Pow=-0.07 (95% confidence interval: 3.03*10-3 to -0.159).
