Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Name:
1,3-Propanediol, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-, allyl ether
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
1,3-Propanediol, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-, allyl ether
Reference substance:
1,3-Propanediol, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-, allyl ether
Reference substance:
1,3-Propanediol, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-, allyl ether
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The results of an OECD Guideline 302 B (Inherent biodegradability: Zahn-Wellens/EMPA Test) concluded that 1, 3- Propanediol, 2, 2- bis(hydroxymethyl) - , allyl ether is not readily biodegradable. Further information is required until a conclusion can be made on P properties. Simulation testings on ultimate degradation in surface water (OECD 309) has therefore been proposed.

A Bioconcentration study on the Primary Components of Allyl Pentaerythritol (APE) in Fish: Aqueous Exposure Test OECD 305-I was performed where, the BCF of 3 major constituents of APE was calculated. The highest BCF (BCFkinetics: 120 Lkg-1 , BCFsteady state: 117 Lkg-1) was obtained from Pentaerythritol tetraallyl ether which is the contributes 9.5% of the total APE. The study result shows that this substance is not Bioaccumulative (B) neither very Bioaccumulative (vB) and do not pass the criteria of B and vB according to ANNEX XIII of the REACH guidance document.

Short-term ecotoxicology data are available, showing L(E)C50 values of 52 mg/L (fish, 96-h LC50), 69.9 mg/L (Daphnia, 48-h EC50) and >100 mg/L (algae, 72-h EC50). Long-term ecotoxicity data are not available. Based on available short-term ecotoxicity data, the substance does not meet the criteria to be considered potentially toxic (T) (i.e. L(E)C50 values are not <0.1 mg/l). It is therefore concluded that 1, 3- Propanediol, 2, 2- bis(hydroxymethyl) - , allyl ether is not T under PBT.
