Calibration factor

Sample 1                     =                   1.001

Sample 2                     =                   1.003

Surface tension          =                   reading x calibration factor
Sample 1                   =                    72.5 mN/m
Sample 2                   =                    72.5 mN/m

pH of sample solution:                     Sample 1 = 4.8
                                                        Sample 2 = 4.6

Since the substances showing a surface tension greater than 60 mN/m, it was considered not to be surface active.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of duplicate 90% saturated aqueous solutions of the substance as a 50% w.w. dispersion in pharmaceutical white oil has been determined to be 72.5 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5°C. The substance was considered not to be surface active.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of duplicate 90% saturated aqueous solutions of the substance as a 50% w.w. dispersion in pharmaceutical white oil has been determined to be 72.5 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5°C. The substance was considered not to be surface active. The surface tension of the test material was conducted in a GLP-compliant ring balance test following OECD guideline 115 (Harlan 2013). The study is considered to be reliable and relevant for use for this endpoint.

Description of key information

The surface tension of duplicate 90% saturated aqueous solutions of the substance as a 50% w.w. concentration in pharmaceutical white oil has been determined to be 72.5 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5°C and a 90% saturated solution (calculated as 90% of water solubility: 0.135 mg/L). The substance was considered not to be surface active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
