The test substance is introduced into an appropriate sample pan and together with an empty reference pan placed in the test chamber of a Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) instrument, which is operated under an applied constant pressure between 0.025 kPa and 13 kPa. The test substance is heated at a constant rate until a boiling endotherm is measured. Boiling is observed at the temperature where the partial pressure of the test substance equals the pressure applied to the test chamber. The pressure is noted during observance of the boiling endotherm and the boiling temperature is measured as the extrapolated onset temperature. This measurement is repeated using new samples of the test substance for each of five or more different pressures covering the pressure range of interest. The pressure-temperature data are fitted as 10log P and 1/T with the Antoine vapour pressure equation. The vapour pressure in kilo Pascal (kPa) at 25°C is then calculated from the derived equation.
