The registered substance is a reaction products of C16-18 (even numbered), C18 unsaturated alkylamines with C10-13 alkylbenzenesulfonic acid (EC 701-164-2). The reaction mass is constited by both part (alkylamine and alkylbenzene sulfonic acid) are generally present with a 1:1 ratio. Due to the complex composition of the registered uvcb, the radio labeling of the reaction mass will be technically challenging and is highly unlikely to provide useful information as to the fate of the test material. Moreover the very low water solubility and the high adsorption properties can lead to difficulties to recover the test material from the matrix.


 


However, in a Weight of Evidence simulation test in soil data are available. These data are conducted on a representative constituent of both type of chemical with constituted the reaction mass (EC 701-164-2).


 C10-13 alkylbenzenesulfonic acid simulation test in soil:


Ward and Larson (1989) conducted a laboratory study and observed the biodegradation rate constant and half-life for C12-LAS in sludge-amended soil. The biodegradation rate constant for C12-LAS is 0.030 day-1and the half-life for C12-LAS is 23.1 days in soil at 20°C.


“Amines, C16-18 and C18-unsatd alkyl” simulation test in soil:


An OECD 307 aerobic soil transformation study (3 soils) was carried out with [1-14C]-Hexadecanamine (Harlan, 2010). Although this C16 amine is strongly sorbing to soil (median Kpsoil of 3875 L/kg at lowest measured concentration) half-lives between 8.1 and 9 days at 20 degree C were determined. The median Half-life of 8.9 d at 20 degree C corresponds to a median Half-life of 16.9 d at an environmental temperature of 12 degree C. The properties of the 'Amines, C16-18 and C18-unsatd alkyl' have been established in the framework of a category approach on primary fatty amines.
