Description of key information

Based on results of the Mouse Ear Swelling Test, the test item is not considered to be a skin sensitizer.

In addition, the test item is classified as skin corrosive 1A. Thus, additional testing for skin sensitizing potential is waived.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

2-ethylhexylamine was evaluated for dermal sensitization in 10 mice by Mouse Ear Swelling Test (Sensitization Assay). Induction consisted of 5% topical application of the test and/or control material to the clipped abdomen. The test and positive control animals were challenged on day 10 on the left ear and re-challenged on day 17 on the right ear with a 25% solution of test substance. Few animals challenged showed weakly positive reactions at challenge or re-challenge in the test group, but not in the irritation control group. The test provided no evidence of a sensitising potential of 2-ethylhexylamine. The functionality of the test system was demonstrated by using an appropriate positive control substance which was clearly positive.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification, Labeling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008

The available experimental test data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation 1272/2008. The substance is not considered to be classified as skin sensitizer under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EC) No 2017/776.
