Description of key information

Determination of the water solubility of FAT 40863/A TE using a flsk method.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
858 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The determination was carried out by visual appraisal, using a flask method, designed to be compatible with Method A6 Water Solubility of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 105 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995.

The test medium consisted of purified (reverse osmosis) water.

Discussion

The standard EC A6 / OECD 105 methodology was not applicable to this test item, due to its very high solubility.

It was evident from the information obtained in the hydrolysis test (see Section 5.1.2 of this Summary) and data relating to the pH of the test item in water that negligible hydrolysis of the sample solution occurred during the course of the water solubility test.

Due to the viscosity of the samples increasing with test item concentration, it was considered that 46.2 % w/w of solution was close to the practical limit of the test.

Conclusion

The water solubility of the test item has been determined to be greater than 46.2 % w/w of solution (equivalent to greater than 858 g/L of water) at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C.
