Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justification for type of information:
Zinc oxide is already oxidized and chemically stable so by essence, the substance cannot react with oxygen, even if heated.

Justification in Outotec REPORT - March 11, 2010 - 10043-ORC-T section 7 and 9, attached

This justification applies to both sets of nanos: the "Zinc oxide nano with and without hydrophilic surface treatment" set and the "Zinc oxide nano - hydrophobic surface treatment" set.

Description of key information

Zinc oxide is already oxidized and chemically stable so by essence, the substance cannot react with oxygen, even if heated.

Based on the thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric measurements and mineral composition the substance has no flammability, explosiveness or auto-inflammability properties. No difference expected for the nano.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Zinc oxide is already oxidized and chemically stable so by essence, the substance cannot react with oxygen, even if heated.

Based on the thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric measurements and mineral composition the substance has no flammability, explosiveness or auto-inflammability properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Zinc oxide is already oxidized and chemically stable so by essence, the substance cannot react with oxygen, even if heated.
